Abstracts and photo art

Abstracts and photo art T his photo story features my work of nine images. They are my amateur attempts when I was trying to experiment with all kinds of photography. There is no particular theme in these photos. I hope it inspires anyone who’s ever picked up a camera. Also, hope to delight anyone who just likes to look at pictures. Some photos may make you feel like running away; others may make you fall in love with them. A digital SLR camera shot them. I hope they make you feel differently; think differently, even only for a moment. Mihintale is the site of the meeting where Buddhism in Sri Lanka started. This site is about 2300 years old. The scaffolding erected for the renovation of the dagoba made an interesting contrast in this photo. The photo was taken in 2010. This silhouetted boy in this photo is my son when he was fifteen. The sun was low and behind my son. We were at a Coolum beach in Queensland, Australia, in 2005 when I took this photo. In the front is a traditiona...

Squeaky clean and tidy

Squeaky clean, and tidy Everything must have its place; my living spaces are always tidy. As I grew up, I found that being tidy is not a chore but a privilege. I marvelled at my mother’s wardrobe of sarees, stacked in order. She did not allow us to peep too much into her collection. That was the first influence on being tidy. Spending my adolescent and early teenage years in a boarding school was another opportunity to be neat. These ingrained in me to be tidy all my life. Seeing everything in place, either on my desk, my wardrobe or in the kitchen, makes me happy. It is a joy. In my younger years in Dubai, I moved houses frequently. I learned having less stuff made my life easy. In Sydney, my adopted country, I moved homes many times. To be exact, twelve times. When you move houses, you must pack, repack, and unload. So knowing  where things are  and where they could go was essential. Being organised sharpened my thinking. It made me think more clearly. Being tidy is also abo...

Welcome to the dinky toy garage

Image
Welcome to the dinky toy garage Denzil collected dinky toys in his youth. I did not have dinky cars growing up. I had only one dinky toy growing up. It was a die-cast lorry. I played with it the whole day. Dinky cars were a luxury many could not afford in Sri Lanka. I did not think much of dinky cars again until later. My childhood fascination with dinky cars erupted again when I saw them in toy stores in Dubai. In my early twenties as a young man, I was late to the party to play with dinky cars. I started acquiring them to make up for my lost time. Why vintage area models? The supreme era of automobiles occurred from the 1920s to about the 1940s. The models from that era are exclusively detailed and beautifully made. They were colourful and had distinct features, strong characteristics, shapes, and detailed wheels. Pieces of art. They are snapshots of history from a bygone era. I have 18 vintage models. I have a range of models, passenger cars, racing cars, trucks, lorries, utility ve...
